Manchester United launched a late and unlikely comeback to beat Juventus 2-1 at the Allianz Stadium on Wednesday night.
Juventus v Manchester United: Champions League as it happened
In a game that the Italian hosts dominated for long spells, it looked as if United were going to leave Turin empty handed when Ronaldo put Juventus ahead with a sublime volley on 65 minutes.
A floated pass over the top by Leonardo Bonucci picked out the run of Ronaldo, and the finish was of the highest quality, with the forward hitting it first time on the volley as the ball dropped over his shoulder.
It was a classy, classy strike and few saw United recovering. But they didn’t reckon on a moment of inspiration from Juan Mata, who curled a delicious late free-kick into the Juventus net.
And, as the clock ticked into added time, Jose Mourinho’s side snatched the win as a cross bobbled off the heads of Bonucci and Alex Sandro to find a way across the line.
